Many of you contributed to my GoFundMe drive a few months ago, and thank you all again for your support!
The drive’s goal was $2,000 to allow me to buy a new book for each student in my elementary school, and once I posted about it here on DKos, that goal was reached in a couple of hours!
In fact, I ended up raising $7,000, so I had a lot of extra money to decide what to do with.
I put out a message on a school librarian listserv in my state asking for librarians of districts with little or no library budget or other needs to apply for part of the money, and created a Google Form for them to use. Ultimately, I chose 3 school libraries to contribute to.
This morning I received an email from one of the librarians that received funds, I will post it below without signature for privacy purposes:
I don't think I have the words to adequately thank you for your generous gift to our school and library. I am beyond grateful and was moved to tears when I opened that envelope. What an incredible gift you have given our school and students. My students and I may not personally know. you but your legacy will live on in a district and children far from your home in these books that we will be able to purchase. What an example you are to everyone as you do so much good even in your current circumstance. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and from all of our students and staff. Sending prayers of comfort and healing for whatever lies ahead in your journey.
Part of the credit for this goes to those who contributed, so warm fuzzies all around for you.
As for me, I’m still hanging on (obviously). Earlier this week I had a plastic stent that was placed in my liver 3 months ago removed and replaced with a new metal one 3x the size that will last 6 months (if I’m still here to replace it).
I get very tired easily. My wife says since the stent was replaced my color is less yellow (from jaundice). My appetite is rather random — something will sound amazing to me and then when I take a bite or two...meh. Even favorite foods. So that’s been a bit of a struggle. All things considered given that some of the oncology staff thought I’d be dead by now, I can’t complain.
Til next time, folks!
